Competitions | DECA U Brock

DECA U Brock offers its members several opportunities to compete in Business case competitions throughout the academic year among other DECA U chapter members from all over the province as well as across the continent. Members are able to network with industry professionals as well as other members through social events. The events that we offer are:

CLA International Conference:

This year marked our first attendance of the Collegiate Leadership Academy Conference held in New York City. A three day conference focused on professional development, it was hosted by Collegiate Deca, the international governing body of Deca Inc. The competition is traditionally held during the month of November and delegates compete in industry specific cases. This year we took home two medals in each Fashion Merchandising and Marketing and International Business and Finance.

Queen’s Invitational:

Every year, DECA Queens holds a case competition on a weekend in November for members from other chapters in an effort to better prepare them for the provincial competition held in January. This competition is a three day event where members can develop their leadership and networking skills.

We are also hoping to attend one of the Invitational’s offered by the University of Western Ontario, and the University of Waterloo for the 2011-2012 year.

DECA U Provincial Competition

The biggest competition that DECA U Brock members participate and compete in is the Provincial competition. This is a two day event that is held at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Toronto with over 900 students competing from across Ontario and Quebec. The event is judged by industry professionals, with awards for the top scores in the oral and written events. Every year, DECA U Brock has been improving significantly achieving many awards for members as well as two Chapter awards for membership participation rates. This is a great opportunity to compete against the best students, while developing presentation, leadership and networking skills.

ICDC – International Career Development Conference

After the success achieved at the provincial level, the top 10 members who scored the highest at provincials are given the opportunity to compete internationally with Collegiate DECA members all over North America! Last year, Brock’s team competed at ICDC in Louisville, Kentucky where Brock performed exceptionally well, including a first place overall. This year, ICDC was held in Orlando, Florida from April 12^th – April 17th and it was the most successful to date with eight out of ten Brock delegates bringing home medals!

ICDC 2012 will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah!
